LGBTIQ network

The working group of lesbian, gay and transgender groups has existed in Düsseldorf since 1995. More than 35 associations, organisations, groups and projects of the LGBTIQ community are networked here.

The representatives meet every two months for mutual information and exchange. The Forum is in regular contact with local political actors in the city of Düsseldorf, and since 2015 two representatives of the Forum have been experts in the Equal Opportunities Committee of the state capital. In working groups, concepts and motions are developed on specific topics with which the Forum campaigns for a discrimination-free Düsseldorf. For example, the counselling centres for rainbow families, for LGBTIQ seniors or for transgender people can be traced back to initiatives of the forum. The community has also been fighting for years for a Düsseldorf memorial to the persecution of homosexuals.

LGBTIQ+ contact person

In 2016, the position of a diversity officer was created in the Düsseldorf city administration, who also looks after the concerns of LGBTIQ. Since then, a network for lesbian, gay and transgender employees has been set up in the equal opportunities office of the state capital, events in the field of diversity have been organised and the activities of various organisations and groups have been coordinated and networked.
